Remington 887

Down the Annals of History

What has been one of the most successful pump-action guns in the history of firearms? Now going into its 60th year of getting further developed as well as further produced, the Remington 870 model can be found within police patrol cars as well as on boats. The gun has also been morphed into each and every slide-action model that could be thought of. This time however, get to know the 870 model’s descendant (and not its replacement), a state-of-the-art addition to the Remington family: the new and innovative Remington Model 887 Nitro Mag.

At first look, the Remington 887 looks just like another one of those black, synthetic stocked pump guns but with just some quite intriguing lines. However, once you pick one up and shoulder it, you know right away that there is something that is unique about this firearm. What it looks like betrays how much it really weighs and both the balance and the liveliness it has belies the rugged appearance it sports.

The giveaway to the Remington 887 model’s not immediately apparent secrets are at the firearms’ muzzle’s end. When taking a look at the muzzle, one can see one of those conventional Rem Choke’s that are screwed into a quite unusual looking thin barreal wall that, in turn, is encased within a think type of polymer jacket. In fact, when viewing it from the sides, the firearm’s profile is so beefy that the Model 887 can be easily mistaken as a 10-gauge.

Looking at the Remington 887’s receiver, one is going to find a similar arrangement of metal parts that are embedded inside a black, polymer shell. One will soon find out that the 887 reflects both the technology as well as the production process that the Remington Company pioneered in the Model 66 and refined afterwards by Glock. This new firearm is a refined combination of not only metal but plastic as well.

The Remington Company has christened their new polymer treatment as Armorlokt. This coating of theirs in particular serves a few purposes. The Armorlokt coating moderates the firearm’s weight, thus resulting in an excellent blend of both balance and responsiveness.

By providing shielding to most of the exposed metal parts of the firearm, Remington’s Armorlokt technology has made sure that the firearm’s exterior becomes impervious to the rain, snow and dirt, just to mention some. Finally, with the combination of the Armorlokt’s steel along with a synthetic buttstock and fore-end, the Remington 887 is very well-protected against nicks and scratches, just to name a few. To pick something from the Remington catalog, “You can wipe it down with your wet dog or a decoy bag at the end of the day.”
